Summertime Cleaning Tips

How to keep the how clean while having fun with the kids

As a parent, you've probably noticed that your kids' stuff starting to make its way into the family room, the kitchen, and even the bathrooms. This can be one of the most challenging times of the year to keep the house organized and clean due to all the coming and going throughout the day with family, extended family, and friends alike.

Here are 5 cleaning tips to help keep your home under control while they are visiting this summer.

Organization

Summer days seem to be a time of discovery - when the kids discover old toys and gain new ones. This is a great time to solicit their help in creating a more

organized play area. below are a few pointers to get you started:

  • Get baskets or bins

  • Devise a color system and encourage them to pick them up after playtime.

  • Have them make the signs for the bins/baskets

  • Don’t forget to make it fun - create a game or a cleaning song!

Clean as you go

Between meal and snack time, the sink will pile up with dishes. To avoid having a huge pile of dishes to manage at the end of the day, try washing them throughout the day. If your routine is to wash in the dishwasher, try stocking it as the day goes and washing at supper to save on energy.

More Outdoor Activities

It is summer and most kids want to take it easy and be lazy around the house and play video games or watch their favorite program on their tablets and you surely need the break as well.

One of the best ways to ensure you are not piling up on mess is the outdoors! Encourage the kids to play outside. Have a picnic lunch to avoid afternoon cleanups, and schedule playdates. Not only is that a great way to get them to burn some energy and get some fresh air, but it also keeps the house clean.

Little Helpers

Making sure the house is clean and organized is hard work and can be stressful. have your little ones help with minor tasks that will help you save time and energy.

Create a daily cleaning schedule with three cleaning tasks such as making your bed, bringing your laundry to the laundry room, and organizing your toys after playtime. This will not only help with creating a routine for them, but it also gives you that time back to tackle meal prep or simply have your morning coffee.

Make it Fun

Summer equals fun! The last thing you want is for the kids to feel like they are working throughout the summer instead of enjoying it. Make their little chores fun by creating a reward system or making it a competition amongst siblings - who doesn’t like a little competition?

Closing Statement

We all know that summertime cleaning can be a bit of a chore. But with these five tips, you can make it a breeze! By staying organized, taking it one step at a time, and making it fun, you'll have your home spick and span in no time. And who knows? You might even enjoy it!
